I'm no ramen connoisseur. When I'm in a fix for ramen, I usually turn to Maruchan or Top Ramen. I've been eating these brands since i was little. That's about as wide as my ramen knowledge is. As long as the noodles aren't too mushy or overly spicy, I'm willing to give it a try.

The Dosirac noodles come in a styrofoam box with plastic lid. The re-usuability for the packaging is nil. Sorry, Earth. Inside you'll find two packets: a vegatable soup base and chicken flavoring. The vegetable based has dehydrated onions, chives, carrots, and spices as well as some odd little pellets. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't put meatballs in a vegetable soup, but that's what the little brown pellets look like. Once cooked, they don't dissolve. They actually take on a spongy texture. So perhaps these little guys are tofu.

The soup flavor was good. I used all of the spice packets and the soup wasn't overly salty. Usually I'm not a soup slurper, but I found myself downing the broth. The noodles were somewhat chewy. If you prefer them soft and sort of transparent, I'm sure a longer soak than the recommended 3 minutes would work.

The noodles alone aren't very satisfying, (what do you expect for 33 cents) so I recommended adding some proteins like a boiled egg or some chicken.

Dosirac noodles also comes in shrimp, beef, pork, and kimchi flavor.

Mochilato, Fullerton

After about a year wait, the second location to Mochilato has finally opened in Fullerton just as the summer heat has begun to bake Southern California. This location is much larger and offers seating for large and small groups as well as patio seating. I don't know if it was the novelty or the price that had me so enthralled with Irvine's Mochilato, but Fullerton didn't quite live up to the nostalgia that I remember with Irvine. However, this location has some upgrades since I first tried Mochilato.

Not just available in Japanese, Italian, and Mochilato way; the Barista flavor has coffee gelato with coffee mocha ice. The gelato shaved ice now comes in four sizes: Junior (6.95), Single (8.95), Lovers (11.95), and Family size (16.95). I remember when the Single was $5.25, now it's 8.95. What a huge hike!
The Italian Way was topped with strawberries, mochi, kiwi, mango, and bananas as well as vanilla gelato. It didn't seem to be as packed with fruit as I remembered, and they were diced much smaller than I would've liked. On the plus side, it tasted was as good as I remembered.
